How Fresno Clovis can improve its economy from within? Weddings!

After moving here back in the mid 90s, I would look around the valley and wonder what other businesses besides agriculture were significant. It is obvious that retail and restaurants were a huge part of the landscape. Of course, government is a big part of our local economy, but let’s leave that out of the discussion because it is not self sustaining. As I spent more time in the valley, I found myself wondering why it couldn’t shape itself a little more like Paso Robles. Paso Robles has created  great niche for itself in wine making and creating wineries that are perfect for events including weddings.

There is plenty of land in the valley and we grow lots of grapes already. I understand that it might not be the right types of grapes; I am not a farmer, but as I have spent more time here I see other cities such as Madera, Sanger, and Mendota create venues for weddings on vineyard land. We are not just talking about weddings we are also talking about creating more venue spaces for events.

I know that there are already some wineries popping up in Fresno and that is great. Why can’t we have a wine trail in addition to a Blossom trail?

Weddings generate a lot of money in the valley. Maybe not as much as some other industries, but it is quite a significant amount of money. In the year 2000, it was estimated that there were over 5,500 weddings in Fresno Clovis. So as of 2000, weddings in Fresno county were at least a $92,000,000 industry.

The population is definitely growing in Fresno county and this means more weddings. This warrants some more attention from our city council and business leaders to help grow this thriving industry.

Let’s make our city proud of our wedding attractions!

Typically when brides and grooms  from Southern CA or Northern CA come to Fresno for their wedding it is because they have ties to the valley. Maybe they grew up here or their family lives here and it makes sense to have their wedding in Fresno since it is much more affordable than having their wedding in the Bay Area or in Southern California. The other typical scenario is brides and grooms will come from all over the country to have their wedding in Yosemite. This is nothing new, but having Fresno as a destination spot is a new concept. Music Express believes in promoting these great venues. Fresno has a few world class venues for weddings.

As a city we are always talking  about making the local economy more vibrant. Music Express Fresno Wedding DJ has noticed that there are many opportunities to do this in the wedding industry. People get married in good times and bad times which makes weddings a great growth opportunity for our local economy.  It would be wise if the chamber of commerce and the venues themselves touted our finer venues as options for destination weddings.

So how Fresno became a destination wedding spot is an interesting topic. Recently I was talking to a bride and groom that had their wedding at Copper River Country Club. They are from the Los Angeles area. They came to visit the Central Valley and they were having brunch at the club. This is when they realized that the Copper River would be the ideal place to have their wedding. They fell in love with the facility and architecture.

You might ask Music Express Fresno Wedding DJ if Fresno has finally arrived as a destination spot. The answer would be “no.” The potential is definitely here to make Fresno into a destination spot, but it will take more work to make this happen. A change to attitude is the first step. Many citizens in Fresno still believe that Fresno cannot compete with other metro areas in CA and this is the first hurdle to overcome. As a community we need to foster more pride in the city and community. So we can talk about how Fresno became a destination wedding spot in the future and other great things happening in our city. We need to think of ourselves as the jewel of the valley.
